ONA portfolio: prepare for the next step

If ONA is required, begin by checking for an exemption. Otherwise prepare the portfolio carefully, then follow the approved course or interview path.

Confirm ONA applies

ONA is generally associated with the 2013 system or voluntary integration. Under the 2021 system, MAP is the work-and-participation module instead. Check Mijn Inburgering and your letters before preparing forms or paying the listed €40 fee.

Build one consistent portfolio

The portfolio contains eight result cards about one specific paid job. Start by considering several occupations, select one as your target, then keep all cards focused on it. Use the current forms and instructions from DUO. Add the supporting evidence requested and make sure the details match across the cards.

Submit and wait for review

Online submission through Mijn Inburgering allows you to choose between a 64-hour ONA course at an approved school and the final interview. The paper route requires the interview. DUO may take several weeks to assess the portfolio, so allow time before your deadline. Keep a copy of the forms and submission confirmation.

Complete the remaining requirement

Portfolio approval alone does not complete ONA. Attend the course or book and pass the final interview. The interview focuses on your portfolio and understanding of work in the Netherlands, rather than testing Dutch grammar. Use the interview invitation for exact instructions and date.
