Can an NT2 diploma count for naturalisation?

A full NT2 diploma may be accepted for the language requirement in some naturalisation cases. Confirm the current rules and whether your component results count as a complete diploma.

Check that you have a full diploma

Programme I is B1 and Programme II is B2. You receive the diploma after passing all four skills in one programme. A certificate for an individual component proves that part only. If all four components were completed before 1 January 2021 and you have separate certificates, contact DUO to ask about exchanging them for the diploma.

Prepare the document for your appointment

Bring the original diploma or ask your municipality whether it accepts a verified digital extract from the diploma register. The records for more recent exams may be available online. If your document is older or missing, contact DUO before the appointment.

Remember the other naturalisation conditions

The NT2 diploma covers the integration exam requirement where accepted, but the IND also checks identity, residence and permit conditions, public order, and nationality rules. The municipality receives your application and forwards it to the IND. Approval is followed by a naturalisation ceremony.

Use the current official checklist

Check the IND’s up-to-date naturalisation rules and the document list from your municipality. If you hold certificates rather than a diploma, confirm that they cover all four parts and request the correct proof before your appointment.
