Who may get free integration exam attempts?
Payment for an exam attempt can depend on your route, status, component, and previous bookings. Verify your eligibility before choosing a date.
Who the rule covers
Under the 2021 law, qualifying asylum status holders who have an integration duty may receive two free attempts for each eligible exam component. Certain family members are included under the legal definition. Other categories may have different payment rules. Ask your municipality or DUO if your status is unclear.
How attempts are counted
The allowance is tracked by component, so a spare attempt in one skill cannot be transferred to another. Attempts at different language levels can affect the count for the corresponding component. A formal route or level change in the personal integration plan may change which attempt is still free.
Check route-specific conditions
All three 2021 learning routes include two free attempts for KNM for eligible learners. Language exam coverage depends on the route: the B1 route ties eligible attempts to the level in the personal plan, while the education route has additional conditions for NT2 components taken within the transition programme. A lower level than the plan may be chargeable. Extra attempts are paid, and this category cannot use a DUO loan for the fee.
Verify before selecting a date
Review the route and current attempt count in your records, and ask the municipality or DUO to confirm any unclear charge in writing. Keep the answer with your booking receipt.
