Exam fees and other integration costs

Budget for exam attempts and learning costs separately. Current fees, payment support, and who pays can differ by route, so verify them before booking or signing up.

Budget for the exams in your route

Each A2 component and the Knowledge of Dutch Society exam is booked and charged separately. The A1 exam abroad has a combined fee, while State Exam NT2 charges per component. The fee tables in 2026 list €50 per NT2 component (€200 for all four) and €150 for the A1 exam; verify current amounts in the official booking service before paying. Check which parts your personal plan actually requires.

Ask about course costs and support

Tuition, books, registration charges and exam fees may be separate line items. Under some arrangements a municipality organizes the course; in other cases the learner chooses a provider. Loan eligibility, eligible costs and repayment rules vary, so confirm these with DUO and the municipality before signing or borrowing. Request a written total price and ask what happens if you stop or change course.

Keep proof of payments and deadlines

Save receipts, invoices, booking confirmations and decisions about funding or exemptions. Cancellation and rescheduling rules differ by exam provider and can have short deadlines. If you believe a fee is wrong or an attempt should be covered, contact the responsible service before making another booking.
