B2 writing practice: plan before drafting
Use original exercises to practise planning, drafting, and checking different B2 writing tasks. They support exam skills but are not official test items.
Set up a timed practice
The B2 writing component lasts 100 minutes and includes multiple task types. Use the permitted paper dictionary only, and practise on a computer if possible so typing does not slow you down. Scan the instructions before choosing an order, then leave time to review.
Sentence completion
Complete each sentence so it fits the meaning and grammar. Practice prompt: Hoewel de reistijd langer is, … (Although the travel time is longer, …). A possible finish is: kom ik toch met de trein, omdat ik dan kan lezen. (I still come by train because I can read then.) Check word order after conjunctions such as hoewel (although) and omdat (because).
Short writing task
Write a concise message with the requested reason, details and next step. Practice prompt: tell a course coordinator that a scheduled appointment conflicts with an exam, suggest two new times and ask for confirmation. Include every requested point and use a polite tone.
Medium-length response
A longer prompt may ask you to explain a problem, compare options or make a recommendation using supplied facts. State the issue, refer to the most relevant information, explain your reasoning and end with a practical proposal. Do not invent figures absent from the task.
Check before finishing
Review completeness, order, verb placement, spelling, names, dates and any word count shown on screen. Assessors mark whether the response fits the task and communicates clearly as well as its language accuracy.
