Structure a B2 writing response

Plan a B2 text around its purpose and reader. Group related ideas, make links clear, and save time to check that the task is fully answered.

Know the three task forms

The exam includes sentence tasks, short texts and medium-length writing. You may finish or compose a sentence, write an email or note, or explain a problem and propose a solution. A task can include a table, graph, image or situation; use the relevant information rather than describing everything.

Divide the available time

The computer-based writing component lasts 100 minutes. A practice allocation could be ten minutes to scan tasks, twenty for sentence items, twenty-five for short texts, thirty-five for medium texts and ten minutes to review. This is a suggested practice plan, not an official timing rule; adjust it after timed practice.

Organize for clarity

For a message, put the purpose first, then requested details, then the action or question. For an advice text, identify the problem, support your view with given facts, and make a practical recommendation. Use paragraphs for distinct ideas and connectors to show cause, contrast or consequence.

Check the requirements

Confirm that every bullet or question has been addressed, names and numbers match the prompt, and tone suits the reader. Review sentence order, verb forms, spelling and any displayed word limit. You may use only the permitted paper Van Dale NT2 pocket dictionary; it must be free of notes or inserts. A component passes at a converted score of 500 or above.
