B1 speaking: give a clear, complete answer
A direct answer followed by a reason or example is often enough to make a B1 response complete. Practise speaking clearly within the time available.
Start with the answer
For a prompt such as “Wat doe je graag in het weekend?” begin with a direct response: “In het weekend wandel ik graag.” Then add one detail.
Connect two ideas
Use familiar connectors such as omdat (because), maar (but) or daarom (therefore). “Ik wandel graag, omdat ik dan buiten ben” is a complete thought with a reason.
Practise repairing a pause
If a word does not come, describe it another way or use a simpler sentence. Record a short answer and check whether a listener can identify your main point and reason.
A simple three-part practice loop
Listen to a prompt, note its action word, and answer directly. Add one supporting detail, such as a reason or example, then stop when the task is complete. Replay the recording and check relevance, understandable word order, and pace. Repeat with a new prompt so the structure becomes flexible rather than memorised. During review, underline the part of the prompt your answer addresses; if a listener cannot match them, revise the response.
