A2 writing examples: match the response to the purpose

Compare new A2 writing models by their purpose and audience. Notice which details make each response complete, then write a version of your own.

Message: ask to change a lesson

Practice prompt: you cannot attend class on Thursday because of a medical appointment. Write to your teacher, explain why, suggest a different day and ask for confirmation. Sample: Beste mevrouw Bakker, donderdag kan ik niet naar de les komen, want ik heb een afspraak bij de dokter. Kan ik vrijdag komen? Kunt u dit bevestigen? Met vriendelijke groet, Samira. (Dear Ms Bakker, I cannot come to class Thursday because I have a doctor’s appointment. Can I come Friday? Could you confirm this? Kind regards, Samira.)

Form: answer each field

For a library registration form, fill in your name, address, phone and preferred contact method. Keep personal fields accurate; use one short sentence for an open question such as Waarom wilt u lid worden? (Why do you want to become a member?).

Short text: describe a useful place

Prompt: write three sentences about a place near your home. Example: Naast mijn huis is een klein park. Ik wandel daar vaak met mijn hond. Er staan veel bomen en het is rustig. (There is a small park next to my home. I often walk there with my dog. There are many trees and it is quiet.)

Note: give clear instructions

Prompt: leave a colleague a note about a delivery. Include what arrived, where it is and what to do next. Use a greeting if suitable, then give the action in a direct sentence.

Review against the prompt

A2 writing has four paper-based tasks in 40 minutes. Check every requested fact, use readable handwriting, and include a reason or date when asked. Compare your own answer with the task before looking at any model response.
