A2 writing: catch common answer problems

Review A2 writing for missed task points, unclear sentences, and basic form errors. A repeatable check helps you catch problems before time is up.

Answer the full instruction

Read each prompt carefully and identify every required point. For an invitation reply, the task may ask whether you can attend, what time you will arrive and what you will bring. Missing one part can make an otherwise correct message incomplete.

Use short sentences with clear order

Put the subject and verb in a simple order, and use familiar connectors such as en (and), maar (but) and omdat (because). Check the position of the verb after a time phrase or conjunction. Prefer a clear sentence you can control over a longer sentence with several clauses.

Check practical details and tone

Make sure names, dates, times and places are consistent with the task. Use a suitable greeting and closing when writing a message. If the prompt asks for a request, phrase it politely and state exactly what you need.

Leave time for a final review

A2 writing is completed by hand under time limits. Check whether you wrote something for each task, included all requested details, and used readable handwriting. Then review spelling, articles, verb endings and word order. DUO’s official paper practice can help you rehearse the format.
