Answering A2 speaking picture questions
Picture tasks reward a response that addresses the actual prompt. Practise describing relevant details, making a choice, and explaining a sequence in simple Dutch.
Understand the response format
The A2 speaking exam is computer-based, uses video and picture prompts, and takes 35 minutes. You may answer a personal question, describe what you see, select an option or narrate several images. Listen for follow-up requests such as why, when or what you think.
Answer a video question
Prompt: How do you travel to your Dutch class? Possible answer: Ik ga met de fiets, want de school is dichtbij. (I go by bicycle because the school is nearby.) The answer gives both the way and a reason.
Describe or choose from pictures
For one image, mention the people and action requested. For two images, name your choice and add a reason: Ik kies het park, want buiten wandelen is rustig. (I choose the park because walking outside is peaceful.)
Explain actions in order
If a set of images shows someone preparing dinner, use order words: Eerst wast zij de groente. Daarna snijdt zij de groente. Tot slot maakt zij soep. (First she washes the vegetables. Then she cuts them. Finally she makes soup.) Describe each picture the prompt asks you to cover.
Review with a practice checklist
Record answers to new prompts and check task fit, clarity, vocabulary, grammar, fluency, connections and pronunciation. A self-score is only a study aid, not an official result. DUO’s sample tests help you learn the screen; use fresh prompts to practise flexible answers.
