A2 speaking: fix answers that are too short or unclear

Common A2 speaking issues include missing part of the prompt or giving too little context. Review a recording for task fit, clarity, and useful detail.

Mistake: answer a different question

If the prompt asks where you are going, naming what you are carrying does not answer it. Listen for the question word and begin with the requested information: Ik ga naar de markt. (I am going to the market.)

Mistake: leave out the requested reason

For a choice question, saying Ik kies de trein. (I choose the train.) may be incomplete if the prompt also asks why. Add a relevant reason: …want het regent. (…because it is raining.)

Mistake: describe only one picture

When instructions refer to several images, mention each one or explain the sequence. Use first, then and finally to organize actions. Do not spend time describing details that are unrelated to the prompt.

Mistake: use a long unfinished sentence

A short complete response is easier to follow. Choose words you know and stop when the task is answered. If you make a small error, continue instead of restarting several times.

Review recordings with a checklist

Ask: Did I answer every part? Was my response relevant? Could a listener understand the words? Did I add the reason or opinion requested? Practise the same task type with a new prompt, then compare the recording.
