What to do when you miss a word in A2 listening

If a word slips by during an A2 recording, keep following the conversation. Focus on the question, later clues, and any correction that changes the outcome.

Listen for the information the question asks

Before the audio starts, identify whether you need a person, time, place, reason or action. You can then focus on that information instead of trying to translate every sentence. If you miss a name or adjective, continue listening for what the person does.

Notice when plans change

In a practice exchange, someone might say: We spreken om half drie af… nee, om drie uur bij de ingang. (We’ll meet at 2:30… no, at 3:00 by the entrance.) The correction changes the time; the final version is the one to use. Listen for contrast words, repetitions and phrases that signal a change.

Keep attention through the whole recording

Do not lock in the first number or place you hear. A speaker may correct it or add a condition later. If a question has answer choices, compare the final detail with each option after the audio ends.

Turn mistakes into targeted practice

When practice allows replay, locate the phrase that supplied the answer. Label the clue type—correction, contrast, repeated detail or reason—and practise another short clip with the same pattern. Review whether you missed the sound, misunderstood a word or stopped listening too early.
