Book an A2 exam: check your requirements and options

Start with your personal exam overview

Open Mijn Inburgering and note the exam parts and level recorded for you. A2 language skills and KNM are separate bookings; ONA, when required under the 2013 system, has its own portfolio process. If your municipal plan names B1 but you are considering A2, ask the municipality or DUO to confirm in writing that the lower level will count before you pay.

Choose an A2 or KNM appointment

Sign in using DigiD, select the required component, and choose an available centre and date. Save the booking confirmation and check your portal and post for the exam call letter. DUO notes that a date may not be available for more than six weeks, so begin early when a deadline is near. In 2026, an A2 or KNM attempt is listed at €50; some candidates qualify for no-cost attempts or can pay through a DUO loan. Confirm your own payment options in the portal.

Follow the separate ONA route if it appears in your file

Check first whether ONA applies to your law and whether an exemption is recorded. If it is required, prepare the eight result cards and supporting evidence before submitting the portfolio for review. After approval, complete either the 64-hour course route or the final interview. The course route uses online submission; a portfolio sent by post can only be followed by the interview. DUO’s current guidance lists a €40 fee and review periods that can take several weeks. Check the current instructions before sending documents or arranging payment.

Allow time for changes and paper forms

If you must move or cancel an A2 appointment, check the one-week cutoff and act before it to retain the usual refund option. ONA has different cancellation conditions. When DigiD access is unavailable, ask DUO for the paper A2 or KNM form and send it early enough for delivery and processing. Keep a copy of everything you submit.

Use the correct service for other components

B1 and B2 State Exam NT2 bookings go through Mijn DUO. The A1 exam abroad has a separate registration and appointment process. MAP and PVT activities are arranged by the municipality, rather than booked as language exams. Check the service named in your official record, then verify the date, location, payment choice, and contact details on the confirmation.
