Prepare for the A1 exam abroad with a steady routine
Build A1 preparation around the speaking, reading, and society-knowledge components. Short regular sessions can help you identify gaps before an overseas appointment.
Set a weekly pattern
Choose several study periods that fit your routine. Rotate speaking, reading and society topics rather than spending every session on one skill. Start with material that matches your current level and leave one session each week for reviewing earlier vocabulary.
Practise the exam actions
For Speaking, answer everyday questions aloud and complete simple sentences from a picture. For Reading, locate a requested date, place or instruction in a short notice. For society knowledge, connect a situation to the relevant Dutch institution or everyday rule. Use official examples to learn how each task appears.
Use active recall
Close your notes and try to say or write the meaning from memory. If you forget a word, look it up, use it in a fresh sentence and revisit it a few days later. Make a small list of recurring mistakes rather than copying long word lists.
Review and adjust the plan
At the end of each week, repeat a short task and compare with your previous attempt. If you understand texts but hesitate when speaking, add more recorded answers. If you consistently miss details, practise slower reading and question words. Ask a teacher or support person for focused feedback where possible.
